Job Description

Experience & Requirements:
– Provide direct care to inmates in correctional institution
– Provide emergency care to staff while maintaining security requirements
– Deliver appropriate health care to inmates
– Diagnose and treat inmates within scope of practice
– Perform routine history and physical examinations
– Order and perform laboratory studies, X-rays, and examinations
– Initiate consultation requests with supervisory physician approval
– Educate inmates on medical conditions, drug use, diet, treatment effects
– Document patient contacts in medical record
– Maintain confidentiality of medical records
– Order medications adhering to formulary
– Participate in CQI program data collection
– Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

Responsibilities:
– Graduate of accredited program
– Hold current state license to practice
– Certified or eligible for certification in scope of practice
– Competent as defined by state’s practice act
– Maintain current CPR certificate
